Melanie Hulsker

Melanie is a lifelong resident of Calgary where she enjoys community building and giving back to the City she is proud to call home. Melanie has over 20 years of professional experience at the federal and municipal orders of government. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters of Communications Studies from the University of Calgary and Masters Certificate in Municipal Leadership from York University.
In her current role as Director of Community Strategies at The City of Calgary, she leads a multi-disciplinary team of professionals responsible for community development, social policy research, program evaluation, funding strategy, and strategic partnerships to advance common outcomes related to community wellbeing. Melanie and her team work with community members and stakeholders to support a vibrant city with strong and inclusive neighbourhoods where citizens are empowered, connected, and involved. Before joining The City of Calgary in 2009, Melanie worked with Statistics Canada for almost 10 years where she held a variety of roles responsible for data collection, data dissemination, and advisory services. Melanie’s background in research guides her belief in using evidence-based decision-making to support positive outcomes.
When Melanie isn’t working, volunteering, or driving kids to their programs, you can find her out exploring the city and enjoying the beautiful parks and pathways with her husband, two children, and dog.
